Is there a way to use 3uTools to bypass or remove an activation lock?

My grandparents bought me a iPhone 8plus for my birthday off craigslist and it has an activation lock on it. We tried calling the guy we got it from but never got through. I am hoping there’s a way to salvage this phone because apple support said they couldn’t do anything.
